Our Story

Casa Duniya - Handcrafted Artisan Home Decor Hong Kong

Casa Duniya is a Hong Kong-based home decor and lifestyle brand, founded in 2021 by Divya Tourani. The name translates to "House of the World" in Hindi and Urdu — a fitting description for a brand built on sourcing handcrafted tableware, home decor, and fashion accessories directly from artisans across Morocco, Indonesia, India, Turkey, Jordan, and Tunisia.

How it started

Divya founded Casa Duniya in 2021, during a period when Hong Kong's restaurant restrictions had pushed most entertaining into people's homes. As a home entertainer and mother, she found herself wanting the at-home dining experience to feel as considered as eating out — and realized that the everyday tableware most people already owned wasn't doing the food, or the occasion, justice.

That observation became the starting point for Casa Duniya: sourcing genuinely well-made, handcrafted pieces directly from artisans, rather than through multiple layers of importers and markups, and bringing them to Hong Kong.

Where we source, and why

Each region we work with brings a different craft tradition:

Morocco — hand-painted ceramics from workshops using techniques passed down across generations, including the country's centuries-old cobalt-blue pottery tradition. Every piece is painted by hand and fired more than once, which is why no two are ever identical.

India — hand-hammered metalware and hand-beaded textiles. Many of our beading partners are women-led workshops, where each coaster or placemat can take hours of individual handwork to complete.

Turkey — hand-embroidered textiles, including our evil eye (nazar) motif pouches and beach bags, made in small, often family-run workshops.

Indonesia — hand-carved wooden serving pieces, shaped from sustainably sourced wood using traditional carving tools rather than machine production.

Jordan — hand-painted ceramics and hand-blown glassware, continuing design traditions that have been part of the region for centuries.

Why we source directly

Most handcrafted goods pass through several layers before reaching a customer — a local trader, an export agent, an importer, a wholesaler — and each layer adds its own markup. By working with artisan workshops directly, Casa Duniya cuts out that chain. It means the artisans themselves see more of what a piece sells for, and it means we can offer genuinely handmade goods at prices closer to what they'd cost in the country where they're made, rather than what a multi-layered import chain would otherwise require.

What we do

Every piece in our collection is individually made using one of these traditional techniques — hand-painted ceramics, hand-hammered metalware, hand-beaded textiles, or hand-carved wood. Small variations between pieces — in brushwork, bead placement, or grain — are part of the handmade character, not a flaw.

We work directly with artisan communities in each of our source countries, which is also why our collections are organized by origin and craft technique rather than just by product type. Our range spans tableware, home decor, and fashion accessories.
